One of the most recognizable aspects of the foundation is the Walter Payton “NFL Man of the Year” award, which is awarded annually to the football player who best embodies the humanitarian legacy of the Chicago Bears’ Hall of Famer through charity and volunteer efforts. The award carries with it a $25,000 gift that goes to the charity of the recipient’s choice.
WCPF also collaborates with Concord Place Assisted Living Community on the Veteran Project, which offers 55-and-over veterans facing financial hardship with a safe, supportive living environment. Residents receive three meals a day and have access to health care checkups and therapy facilities, including a heated swimming pool. With residential suites sponsored through $2,500 donations, 40 such units are currently up and running. The WCPF also spearheads annual campaigns, such as the Back-to-School Supply Drive and the Holiday Giving Program.
